Your Fundraising Banquets are very successful. Where does the money go?

Unlike many chapters of national nonprofits, the money we raise stays right here in Hancock County. We use the funds to orchestrate our No Child Left Indoors events, our Youth Pheasant Hunts and our Ladies Pheasant Hunts, and we also use it to plant and maintain conservation habitats here at home.

Additionally, we count on our banquet sponsors for the bulk of our annual funding, and our chapter greatly appreciates their generosity. Without our supporters, we would not be able to offer our youth the programming we make available (for free), and our conservation efforts in Hancock County would suffer greatly as well.

Who does the chapter serve?

The Hancock County Chapter of Pheasants Forever serves the people of Hancock County. We work closely with the wildlife officers from the District 2 office of the Division of Wildlife, but also with habitat biologists that oversee our part of the state. From time to time, we are blessed to have the assistance of officers and members from neighboring PF chapters, just as we have been willing to help them when help is needed. We’re all in this together.

Who is eligible to hunt in the annual youth hunts?

To be eligible to hunt, boys and girls must be of the ages 11-17, have a valid hunting license, and must be accompanied by a non-hunting adult or mentor who also carries a hunting license.  Youth will be paired with other youth for the hunt.

The hunt is free of charge to all who wish to participate, however we are limited to 60 youth for the event.  Pre-registration is required, and applications are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.  The deadline for applications for the 2015 hunt is 10/9/2015.

Can you tell me more about your Gun Raffle?

While a large amount of our necessary operating funds are generated at our annual banquet each early Spring, another huge chunk of our budget is derived from our year-long gun raffle.

Each year 1,000 raffle tickets are made available for sale, and there’s a winning number pulled every week. The numbers that win are based on the Pick 3 drawing of the Ohio lottery that occur each Friday night (straight bet). A ticket number is active and eligible for winning throughout the year, so if there’s a number that the lottery draws more than once, the holder of that ticket number wins more than once. Theoretically, there’s no limit to the amount of times one ticket number than be drawn

Tickets are only $30 each, and all of our guns are provided by TNT Firearms, on Lima Avenue in Findlay.  For information, contact a committee member.

How can I get more involved?

There are three things our chapter needs to succeed; time, talent and treasure.

The easiest way to support the chapter is to attend our annual banquet, either as a supporter or as a volunteer, or both. That’s one evening you can give to help our chapter raise the raise the funds we need and give our sponsors and supporters a great time.

Beyond that, we have various events that can always use people who want to help. For our No Child Left Indoors events, it’s great to have help on site as the kids experience everything from air rifles, shotgun shooting, archery, kayaking, knot tying and 4-wheeler safety, among other events.

For even more involvement, we would love to have more folks on our various committees, particularly our banquet committee. If you’re interested in helping out, contact a chapter officer.
